Cleaning Your Tarnished Silverware

P1000286

Really simple tip for you all today! We got given some old silverware from Anthony’s Grandma about a month ago, but they were pretty tarnished. I thought it was a huge pity because they’re really beautiful, so I decided to declare war on the tarnish!

After a quick google (and Pinterest search, of course) I discovered that there’s actually a really simple solution!

All you’re going to need is a deep dish or baking tray, aluminum foil (this is essential) and some bi-carb soda.

Wrap your dish completely in foil, then add your silverware, laying them out neatly.

How gross do they look!? So dull and dark.

Next, you want to grab your bi-carb soda and cover all your silverware. I repeat, COVER. The more you use the better the results.

As you can tell… I really did cover them pretty completely.

Next, you want to put your tray or dish into your sink for this next step, which will prevent mess.

Boil your kettle, and pour the water over the tray, to make sure you cover all the cutlery completely. You want them fully submerged for this to work. I used a dish that wasn’t quite deep enough, so I had to do this twice, turning the cutlery over to get the other side.

All that’s left is to grab a clean tea towel and rub down your cutlery. This will very easily rub off any tarnish that’s on your silverware!

Here are my results:

How good do they look!? They’re so shiny and lovely. I was so happy with the results. There’s some tarnish that just isn’t going to come off no matter what you do, but now they just look old, not dirty.

Hope you guys are having a great Monday!
